Abstract

This article presents a report on the use of the Internet by language professionals, particularly foreign language teachers. The report shows a dramatic increase in the use of the Internet beginning in 1993. Listserves, EMail, Discussion Groups, and especially the World Wide Web are predominate among the services included in the Internet. Common Web activities include teaching teachers how to use the Web, locating information at Web sites for use in classes, putting reading passages and other materials at Web sites for student use, and having students search for information on the Internet. Continued moderate growth in Web usage can be expected. However, if K-12 foreign language teachers receive appropriate equipment and training, the profession could well witness another dramatic upsurge in use of the Internet.
