This scenario illustrates the conditions necessary for significant growthin the technology-based teaching of languages. Sophisticated use of computers, video, and audio in college teaching requires a heavy investment in facilities, support staff, and faculty training. In addition, an environment must be created which provides access to materials and information,
encouragement for long-term projects, and opportunities for testing, publication, and dissemination of results.
