Abstract

The art of computer programming for computer-assisted instruction (CAI) in foreign languages is not well understood. In order to stimulate exchange of experiences and techniques in this area, we present a discussion of programming in two major sections, plus an introductory section (Section I)., Section II describes an introductory programming course designed specifically for foreign language teachers. We hope it can serve as a model for similar courses at many institutions. Indirectly, it also offers the autodidactic some hints on ways to focus self-study. Section III tackles more advanced questions related to the manipulation of text in foreign language CAI.
