Abstract

In this paper, we explore how Muslims are increasingly part of Western societies with a focus on Canada. The discourses redefining their ideas and opinions reflect how their ‘new’ milieu is both shaping and being shaped by them in a context characterized by the globalization of Islam and the individualization of faith. We end with some assessments for further theoretical and empirical research on the emerging Muslim identity, integration models and the Muslim faith itself.
