    John Bateman is Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Linguistics and English Departments of the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Sciences at the University of Bremen. His research areas revolve around functional and computational linguistics, focusing particularly on accounts of register, genre, functional variation, functional natural language semantics, lexicogrammatical description and theory, multilingual and multimodal linguistic description, and computational instantiations of linguistic theory.
