Peer Review Process

The CALICO Journal is committed to objective and fair double-blind peer-review of each research manuscript submitted for consideration. Manuscripts submitted to the CALICO Journal initially undergo an in-house editorial review, which evaluates the manuscript's overall suitability for the journal, general quality, and potential interest to our readership. Upon favourable review at this stage manuscripts are then sent out to at least three experts in an appropriate field for peer review. This is sometimes a lengthy process, but we strive to have an initial decision back to authors within eight weeks of submission.

Statement of publication ethics and malpractice

The CALICO Journal is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic quality and publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any research publication malpractices. By submitting a manuscript to the CALICO Journal for publication, authors are attesting that the manuscript is an original work not currently under consideration elsewhere. Authors further confirm that the manuscript represents their own contribution and the work therein has not been copied or plagiarized in whole or in part from other works. The authors acknowledge that they have disclosed all and any reasonably foreseeable conflicts of interest with their work or partial benefits associated with it. The CALICO Journal is committed to objective and fair double-blind peer-review of each research manuscript submitted for publication.  The CALICO Journal also strives to prevent any actual or potential conflict of interests between the editorial and review personnel and the reviewed material. Any departures from the above-defined rules should be reported directly to the Editors, who are unequivocally committed to providing swift and transparent resolutions to any such problems.

The editors coordinate and oversee the review process by a panel of more than 300 expert reviewers internationally, but are not directly involved in the peer review of manuscripts. At least three external reviewers evaluate each manuscript submitted for consideration and recommend publication or otherwise. The members of the international Editorial Board advise the editors on general journal policies and larger projects such as special issues. They contribute to the review process normally about once a year.
