Translated from Italian by Giorgio Biancorroso and edited by Giulio Ongaro. This article, originally written by Herbert Stothart in English, was published in Italian in 1937. In it, Stothart discusses the problem of how to provide music for historical films and offers as a case study his own score for MGM’s 1936 film Romeo and Juliet.
