Prospective authors for The Journal of Mediterranean Archaeology should first read the Guidelines for Authors which you will find in PDF format. Manuscripts sent to JMA are acknowledged immediately and, if their scope and quality seem appropriate, passed to at least two referees for peer review. Papers are normally published in order of the acceptance in final form, without preference for particular regions, periods, or topics.

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Equinox Publishing is a leading publisher specialising in books and journals in the humanities, social sciences and performing arts. We recognise and believe in the integrity of good ethical practice in publishing in order to promote and maintain the quality our contributors produce. As a publisher, we uphold the standards set forth in the COPE code of practice (www.publicationethics.org), specifically for all contributing parties: author, editor, reviewer and as publisher.

We have communicated these standards to our journal editors who share in our aims for ethical publishing practice and agree to work towards these standards throughout the editorial process. Together, we ensure the ongoing excellence and quality for which Equinox is recognised.

All articles submitted to this journal are subject to peer review (double-blind) and in doing so we (the publisher and editors) commit to taking all reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred. Thus, in the event that we are made aware of any allegation of research misconduct, we shall deal with allegations appropriately, including taking steps to retract or correct articles when necessary or to publish clarification and or apologies.

Equinox journal editors have access to (and are encouraged to use) CrossCheck, a plagarism-detection software system which identifies professional plagiarism and other forms of scholarly misconduct.

Archaeology in Areas of Conflict

JMA will not normally consider for publication research that has been undertaken in occupied territory and its contiguous waters as defined by the United Nations, unless that research is required to safeguard, record or preserve at-risk archaeological heritage of the occupied territory, or when permission of the acknowledged national authorities of the occupied territory has been obtained by the researcher.

Copyright Notice

The editors will not consider manuscripts which are under consideration by other publishers. It is assumed that once you have submitted an article to this journal, it will not be sent to other publishers until a decision about inclusion has been made. Only by special arrangement will the editors consider previously published material.

As a condition of publication, please click here to download, sign (electronic signature is acceptable) and return a copy of the contributor agreement by email or regular mail, once your manuscript is accepted. For multi-authored submissions, it is acceptable for one author to sign on behalf of all authors.

If your paper has passed peer review and been accepted for publication on an Open Access basis, we will send you a different contributor/Creative Commons agreement after payment of the fee and prior to publication.
