Abstract

Although the extent is unclear, considerations of fiqh are known to have influenced various genres of Muslim scholarly works produced during the formative period. In the present study, building on the work of Marco Schöller, I identify what I consider to be a legally motivated discrepancy between al- abarī’s (d. 310/923) historical and exegetical accounts of the Prophet’s distribution of spoils following the battle of Khaybar (7/628).
