Alan J. Cooper
Issued Date: 14 Feb 2007

Abstract

In a forensic authenticity examination of an audio recording, being able to prove a recording is an original or some form of copy is of paramount importance. The consumer digital audio interface defined by the IEC60958-3 standard supports the Serial Copy Management System (SCMS) protocol. The significance of SCMS in the determination of original or copied status of digital recordings produced on 'SCMS-compliant' records forms the subject of this article.
