Abstract

In this Riff article, Norman Lawrence Meehan documents Jonathan Crayford’s recollections of how he established himself on the New York music scene during the 1990s. Crayford’s remarks traverse some of the myriad factors that obtain for musicians as they try to break into that scene.

    Norman Lawrence Meehan has taught for the New Zealand School of Music at Victoria University of Wellington, and for Massey University. His main areas of research are jazz, and music in New Zealand.
