6. Description Abstract This contextual analysis of singing traditions in film situates singing and its expressive capabilities in ways that inform the development of a taxonomy of cinematic singing. This taxonomy is complemented with an overview of the volume’s contributions that respectively encompass vocality, cultural considerations, industry signifiers and character/agency revelation.
